This is great for my two grandsons who are 3 and 5. We bought them the bed version with the stairs, not the ladder, and put a full/sized foam mattress on the floor underneath, like a twin/full bunk bed. We chose this bed because it is low so if one of the kids jumps or rolls out, they dont have far to fall and the full bed underneath adds about a foot more cushion to break a fall.
That being said, with a 10 twin foam mattress on top, there is still plenty of railing extending high enough to prevent accidental rolling out of bed, so thats another plus.
The stairs are safe for even our youngest grandson to climb on / he is just over 1.
The only downside is that one of the parts of the stair railing arrived broken and we had to use wood glue to assemble it. Overall, including the wood glue, it took about three hours for two people to assemble. Even with the broken part, the price was right and the finished product is everything we hoped it would be. Great looking and very sturdy. Really Worth it..
