From the pictures, I was concerned that the bottom frame would be too flimsy to withstand teenage abuse that destroyed my last Papasan chair. However, the framework on this chair is metal throughout with wicker as accents. Assembly was a bit challenging as the two metal halves of the semi/sphere didnt quite match up to the bolt holes. It took two people adding slight bending pressure to align the holes long enough to insert the bolts. Using this technique, it took about 10 minutes to assemble.
The cushion is well padded and very durable. The durability comes at a slight price of a rougher texture. The cushion texture resembles more of an outdoor lounge furniture pad than a cotton pillow. For normal use, I dont see this as much of an issue. In my case, the chair does double duty as a lizard lounger for our bearded dragon. He likes to climb the sides up to the top, back of the chair to look out of the window. Our previous chair had a soft, plush texture his claws could grip into. This new chair his claws slide off. We laid towels on the sides so he can now climb it until we can get a cushion cover.
Sturdy steel construction. Durable cushion.
