I am very happy with this product and it meets my needs perfectly
This arrived in a timely manner, and contained all necessary pieces. If I could, I would give it a 4.5 stars, but decided to round down for a few reasons. All in all, I am very happy with this product and it meets my needs perfectly.
Construction: While the bed itself was not terribly complicated to put together, two people were absolutely necessary in my case. The instructions were a little difficult to follow visually - many tiny lines overlapping, and the cover page that showed the completed bed looked more like an optical illusion than an actual bed. However, putting the bed together was fairly straightforward. We struggled attaching the bottom frame supports together, using a bed bolt that looked similar to this: http://www.andrewpittsfurnituremaker.com/Works_in_Progress/Dolphin_Bed/Bed_bolt_and_cover_full.JPG , otherwise, everything else was pretty easy. The screws and pieces came separated by type, size, etc, and not jumbled all together in a bag like some other products Ive seen. It was easy to find what I needed and know what it was.
Quality: Solid wood. Lovely Dark stain. We did discover that the wood had a lot of knots, however. This caused a minor break when the upper back rung dropped from my companions hand. The wooden peg used to hold the pieces together initially didnt break, but the corner of the long horizontal back piece snapped off partway. It was not a major weight-bearing part, so we opted to fix with wood glue and honestly cannot tell now. I considered sending the bed back, but am glad I didnt. However, while this is solid wood, the wood itself seems a bit soft in places, or perhaps weak due to knots in the wood. I accidentally made a few nicks in the stain and wood just pulling it out of the box. I wasnt banging things around roughly, either. Once assembled, the item is very solid, but during assembly perhaps take a little extra care.
Usage: Once built, I purchased a plywood slab to lay over the slats so I could put my standard 8 in twin memory foam mattress on it. Works perfectly. Ive slept on it two nights now, and it is solid. No creaking, no squeaks, and feels perfectly stable. The base is high enough that I am able to store items beneath it.
Final comments: If you want the bed to continue to look nice, I would recommend this for an adults use or in an area where it wouldnt see much rough-housing, due to the dingability of the wood. That said, it fits my space perfectly, has clean lines, and I really do like it a lot.
