I agree that the picture is misleading, I have a full gel foam mattress that sits on this bed and it slightly overhangs on the sides if not just barely matches the bed. However, I purchased this expecting it to be like that and I am still happy with how it looks. I thought about buying a size bigger just to see if it would be better, but decided Id rather not risk it.
Be very careful when building this bed, the wood support slats do seem a bit fragile unlike bed slats and when you piece it together, you really need to make sure youre not being too forceful snapping them into place. As long as youre diligent during the building process (built by myself) then you will have no problems. Im very happy with this purchase.
