I purchased this item for my Hamilton watch. I was influenced by the glowing review by a woman who said she had done her research. Her argument was persuasive, and Im too lazy to do my own research. I read several reviews on a few, different models, and selected this one based on stars, number of reviews, and price.
The box is attractive despite the small scratch I found on one side.
When I opened it the actual device I was hit with a foul, chemical smell. It has been a couple of months, and the smell has somewhat diminished, but is still there. My watch has a leather band, and my main concern was/is that the smell will transfer to the wristband. So far, this hasnt happened.
I keep this box on my nightstand, which might not be a good idea because of the smell.
Segue to the noise is makes when winding. It isnt that noticeable during the day when there is a lot of background noises (birds, lawnmowers, trucks, etc.). However, at night, it is enough to keep me from falling asleep. One solution has been to unplug it when I go to bed. I just have to remember to plug it back in when I wake up. The second option would be earplugs. Im not an earplug fan, but it is an option.
If you are a sound sleeper (e.g. can sleep with the TV on, or fall asleep despite your spouses snoring) then the winding sound wont bother you.
I gave it three stars because of the smell, and noise. Maybe Id bump it up to 3.5 because it looks really nice (I purchased the black version). Sadly, I expected more for $65, but I guess you need to pay more for quality. Let me put it this way, if I had paid $30 for it Id be satisfied.
Update: 1/25/21
The motor that winds the watch has grown louder. I set up a desk in the bedroom, and I can hear it while I work. I took away one star (from 3 to 2).
what is that smell?
