I bought this bedframe specifically because I had a set of storage tubs that I wanted to keep under the bed. Despite advertising 13 inches of underbed storage space, I was very disappointed to find that there are really only 11 inches of usable space. The metal bed frame sits slightly lower than the slats and prevents you from sliding anything taller than 11 inches under the bed without lifting it up. Even though the slats sit slightly higher, I still dont think the measurement from slats to floor is a full 13 inches. While I was able to make the bed work for my purposes by purchasing a set of risers, I should have been able to trust the dimensions provided in the item description.
As other reviews have noted, the package arrived in a very beat up box and with slight cosmetic damage to parts of the frame. Im not one to nitpick about stuff like that since Im likely to cause my own scratches and dents soon enough, and I know that shipping damage happens, but all the same it might be a good idea for the company to improve the durability of their packaging. Assembly was difficult, and Im no stranger to assembling furniture. The pieces of the headboard were very difficult to fit into place, and I had a lot of trouble stripping screws because the holes wouldnt line up properly. The metal of the screws was fairly soft, as was the allen wrench provided, and by the end of the assembly process the wrench itself had become rounded at the corners. Because this wrench is larger than the standard 5/32, I didnt own another wrench that would have worked to finish the job. I understand the appeal of being able to assemble furniture with the wrench provided rather than needing additional tools, but with something as sturdy as this piece I would have liked to be able to use standard phillips head screws.
The hardwood and steel material is very high quality, and looks sleek and stylish yet still sturdy and practical. The first night I slept in this bed it made a lot of noise when I was tossing and turning, but moving the bed about a half inch further away from the wall did the trick and it has been very quiet since then. Other reviews mentioned the slats - I dont love that they are held in place with velcro, but I only hear the velcro when I initially get on to or off of the bed, not every time I move around as other reviews said. So far I havent had any issues with the mattress sliding around on the slats, which was an issue with my previous bedframe. I do really like this bedframe - I just wish that the advertising had been more honest, and that the packaging and assembly process had been better.
Inaccurate description, poor packaging, difficult assembly
