At first blush, take each of the pieces out of the box, I questioned how sturdy this cabinet would be. The instructions were adequate, although one image was ambiguous, and I had to figure it out. There were only ten to twelve screws.
The design comes together in the build. Each piece fits neatly and tightly together. The pieces seem to reinforce the sturdiness of the whole. Then I looked at the specifications. I believe the cabinet will meet or exceed them.
It did not look like much, but it seems to be more than the sum of its parts.
For a do-it-yourself assembly of a furniture kit, this one is a bit of a challenge. First, let me say that the whole kit is quite heavy so you may want to unpack all the pieces from the shipping box and take them somewhere for assembly. That said, it is intelligently and carefully packed and protected inside. Nothing was scuffed or damaged, thanks to all the styrofoam and cardboard and foam wrap. The instructions are fairly clear but if you have never assembled something using this type of connector, you will find it a little confusing until you get the hang of it. All pieces are well labelled and all holes are predrilled and ready for connectors. Be aware that some of the predrilled holes for the pin connectors are about 1/32 under sized and require enlarging with the proper size drill bit.
Do not think this is a solid wood product. Many pieces are some sort of composite covered with a very convincing wrap that looks like wood grain. There were several voids or knotholes in my particular set that were filled and sanded perfectly smooth with some kind of filler that left a seamless and smooth-feeling finish. You might not even have noticed them since they were closely color-matched, except for the fact that the wood grain was missing and therefore a bit conspicuous if you notice that sort of thing.
With basic tool skills and a few extra tools to supplement the small wrench and screwdriver included with the hardware kit, you can put this together by yourself. All the pieces of hardware are separately packed in little bags labelled with a number that corresponds to the numbered step in the directions. There is even an additional little bag with extras of everything, which is a good thing because they shorted me one of the connectors for the shelves. All in all, I was amazed at the close tolerances and how everything came together straight and without any tweaking necessary. (I hate things crooked -- just ask my wife who calls me a perfectionist, and probably other things when Im not listening.)
One more note: as with a lot of things that come on a slow boat from China, the cabinet smells but the odor seems to be dissipating.
Plan on 1 - 1 1/2 hrs to assemble. If you had to turn around and do a second one, it would take you half that time. Recommended for anyone with basic handyman skills.
I wanted something I could use as a liquor cabinet that didnt cost a small fortune. I stumbled across this one during an search and I was nervous that it wouldnt be strong enough to support the weight of numerous bottles of whiskey. The cabinet seems to be quite sturdy and I think itll serve its purpose. Assembly took me about 30 minutes and was fairly straight forward. Overall, this is a great cabinet for the money!.
Side note: This is NOT a recommendation to do this, but I fortified the middle shelf with JB Weld for peace of mind. I dont plan on ever changing the shelf height / position, so I figured this was the easiest way to add strength. However, do this at your own risk, as the manufactoer suggests no more than 55 lbs.
Very pleased. I wanted a smaller buffet for my dining room. Perfect color, size and sturdiness. It was easy to assemble and looks great! I’m really impressed with the quality of the materials. I highly recommend it.
Anyone who says the holes didnt come pre-drilled is putting it together wrong. The directions are definitely not the clearest but everything is pre-drilled properly and comes together nicely when fit correctly. Mine also came in perfect condition so no scratches or dents like some other reviewers.
It was more expensive than I had expected to pay, but the quality, beauty and sturdiness are MORE than well worth it. When you see it, you would never believe it didn’t come from a high end furniture store. I, however, had a handyman assemble it, cause there’s no way on God’s Green Earth that I could have done it. But even with that cost added, I’m still thrilled with it.
Purchased 2 of these foe my dinning room. Love the color and sleek design. Relatively easy to put together. Took just over sn hour to assemble both cabinets. Seem very sturdy. My only issue is that the left doors on both cabinets do not stay closed. Either thd magnet isnt strong enough or the plastic dimple at the to is not the right size to latch correctly. Not s deal breaker. I will come up with a solution.

Nice cabinet -- but you got to work for it!
