As others have mentioned, the back filigree design is an iron type of material (or maybe just iron),l and it does rust pretty quickly but not bad. Overall the bench is very sturdy and easy to put to together. I knew it was going outside in the elements so I’m not too mad at the rust so long as it stays minimal. I have had this bench about a month and it has rained a few times.
I liked the product. Great chair, not too difficult to assemble, probably use a magnet cup to assemble not much in spares. But it was all there. Buy with confidence.
The bench is sturdy and comfortable, and it is fairly easy to put together, but they tend to rust. I have three of them and they have all developed rust spots by the end of the summer. I found that using a metal brush and a spray can of Rustoleum is a good way to fix the problem.
Generally. I think they are a pretty good buy.

Update: Last week a huge tree branch broke from our tree in a heavy snowstorm. The bulk of the branch hit my bench sinking two side legs in the ground and raising the other side up. When I looked out the window, I was sick. I just knew it was going to be sadly bent or broken. It took two men and a large chain saw to free it. When my husband set it back in place, there was not a mark or ding anywhere. Did I mention to begin with that I loved this bench? If I had a place for another one…I would buy it in a heartbeat!
