I used a hex screwdriver instead of the allen wrench.I recommend a full inventory and inspection of each part BEFORE you start.I gave four stars because altho the bed is a good solid construction, it does squeak when getting in/out of it.I have a call into CS and they are very good at returning your calls.Overall, Im happy with this purchase.
My granddaughter loves her bed. My 22 year old son assembled it for his niece all by himself. There were times gravity was hastling him but that is not the manufactures fault. Once I went in to see how he was doing I saw his struggle and held the other end while he finished. The only time things did not align up for was when he had it the wrong direction. We ended up short one screw but it is not a major support so we just ignored it. Now when my granddaughter stays with us she sometimes needs snuggled to sleep, which means she falls asleep in someone's bed and moving her over is not difficult or on many occasions my son will lay with her on her bed while she falls asleep. No strain from the adult weight on the bed frame seems to show.
So happy with this purchase! I was a little nervous after reading previous reviews that described broken or damaged pieces. However our package was all fine except for one of the cap covers that goes on the bottom of one leg. But I can live without that or fix easily.
It took my husband and I a few hours to assemble and it wasn't horrible. I found he directions very detailed and easy to follow. The only holes that didn't line up were the starts for the screws to attach the swinging door to one drawer. But we were able to screw them in easily. Other than that, everything lined up and fit together great. Our daughter will be 4 in a couple weeks and she's in love with her princess bed.

The bed came in a huge and heavy package. It's so huge and heavy that it would be hard to be sent to UPS offices for return unless you own a pickup. Luckily we have no need to do such a step. It's not hard of assembling. It just took a long time. We used one and half persons and spent about four hours totally including unpacking. The instruction's like a book but quiet clear. The accuracy of the parts're not perfect but defenetely acceptable. The final result's nice and sturdy. If you've tried Ikea furnitures before, this bed would not be a problem. Again, it's not hard assembling, just taking time. And the price's so unbeatable.
Could not be happier with this bed! Purchased for my 5 year old and she loves it. Took about a half day to put together, but wasn't too bad. Sturdy build and love the extra storage in the steps (which are also a great alternative to the traditional ladder).
